Our couple was intrigued with the idea of planning a sultry, rich, and elegant wedding. They wanted it to embrace the art deco elements of their venue, lean into dark and moody tones, and have a sophisticated atmosphere for their black tie celebration, and Marshall’s Landing Chicago was the perfect venue.

We hope you are as inspired by their stunning wedding day as we were! Discover ways to create an unforgettable and sexy event day.

Color Scheme: We chose deep, rich colors. Black, Slate Grey, Dark Wine, Berry, Soft Pink, and Gold. These colors evoke a sense of mystery and sophistication.

Venue: When looking for moody, consider venues with a sense of history or mystery, such as a vintage mansion, historic theaters, dimly lit outdoor forests or gardens. Our couple selected the elegant Marshall’s Landing in Chicago’s iconic Merchandise Mart. Decorated with a world class collection of furniture from top international designers, a grand bar, and spectacular dining room overlooking the Chicago River.

Décor: The intentionality of your decor always sets the mood for your space and event. We used Art Deco as inspiration that you see reflected in the cake, the selection of stemware, and the details of their cocktail napkins and other printed pieces.

Black candles were used to add to the drama with the brassy gold vessels that were filled in with floral cups and greenery with textural votive and candle holders.

Music and Entertainment: Select music that sets the mood, such as classical pieces or timeless jazz music. Consider hiring a string quartet or a pianist to perform live during the ceremony and reception. Our couple did both from Yazz Events.

Food and Drinks: Serve a menu inspired by rich, flavorful dishes with a hint of decadence. Consider options like braised short ribs, roasted duck, or truffle risotto. Offer signature cocktails with names that tie into the theme, such as “Dark Magic Martini” featured above or “Midnight Elixir.”

Invitations and Stationery: Set the tone for your wedding with dark and elegant invitations featuring ornate designs, calligraphy, and metallic accents. Consider using black or deep-colored envelopes with wax seals for added drama.

Photography and Lighting: Work with your photographer to capture the mood of your wedding with dramatic lighting and creative compositions. Embrace shadows and silhouettes to add depth and softness to your photos.
